Legends Drop first USL2 Game to Rochester
Legends trip to Rochester
Legends traveled to Rochester for a match up of the Minnesota USL2 squads. Rochester playing its second game of the season after playing Minneapolis City in the Super Cup last weekend got off to a hot start scoring a goal in the 6' and 10' mins from Eric Legut. Both goals found the young Legends backline trying to sort things out.
After the initial 10 mins, the Legends took over in all facets of the game. They found multiple 2v2 attacking opportunities but could not capitalize. Earning numerous free kicks and corners where it just seemed the free kick takers could not get the ball over the first man. In the first half, the best chance came from a service in the box in the 29' min where Cole Van Holland tried to tap home the the bouncing ball but the Rochester GK came up huge with a toe save keeping the shut out.
Second half started withe introduction of our Man of the Match Shea Bechtel for Asher Ozuzu. Shea literally got off a plane at 3:30 at MSP and made his way to Rochester after returning from his study abroad in Italy. With his introduction came an on slaught of chances for the Legends who found themselves hitting the bar and missing just wide. Credit to the Rochester Goalie who played high off his line and made countless clearances outside his box.
Coach Oliver made the adjustment second half to go to a 3-4-3 and the pressure just would not let Rochester out of its own end. The press wore them down and finally in the 90' min Aidan Hillis played a ball Into the target of Nathan Donovan where he flicked it and Shea Bechtel ran on to the ball flicked It over the on rushing goalie. Shea found the first Legends Goal of the year. Play continued into extra time where Nathan Donovan found himself on a couple breakaways but the 90+ min took its tole on him pressing the entire match and had no legs to continue his runs.
When the final whistle blew this marked the first time Rochester had best the Legends. Legends falls to 0-1-0 in the 2024 season. Legends go again on Wednesday vs Minneapolis City at Edor Nelson field at 7:00 PM. Look forward to seeing everyone out or watching the stream.
